From your Wellness Unit,
During this unprecedented time of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the MDOC Wellness Unit is here to assist you and your loved ones. This is an unsettling and uncertain time for many. Wellness Unit staff are available by phone with Wellness Coordinators ready to confidentially support you during this time. We offer crisis response 24/7,if needed, and can assist you with brief counseling or wellness strategies to help you or your family members begin to cope with the day-to-day stressors during this time. Please see our contact information below.
In addition, Employee Services Program (ESP) has social workers who are available for phone and video Skype contact Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm. They can assist you with locating a mental health professional who has teletherapy services capabilities. From the privacy of your own home, you can speak to a licensed mental health support person. Insurance provider information for Telemed services is available on the State of Michigan Employee Telemedicine Benefit Chart.
We value your commitment, sacrifice and service to the public safety in the State of Michigan. We do not pretend to know all the answers, but we certainly would like to help where we can. Your well-being is important for yourself, your family and colleagues. A part of staying healthy is to know you are not alone in this. We are dedicated to providing support to you and your family members. As our Chaplain Coordinator, Lloyd Scharer, respectfully states, “We can all use a little help sometime.”
Thank you for your service.
We will get through this.

Additional resource information:
As we all work to understand and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) it is natural to feel an increase in stress or apprehensions. For some, the worry related to the situation may be particularly strong or difficult. The CDC has a comprehensive resource devoted to the mental health aspect of coping with the Coronavirus pandemic, and a resource on talking with children about the virus. You may also call the Wellness Unit to talk confidentially about your experiences and coping strategies. We are, as always, here for you!
