The Mandaluyong City government turned over P557 million worth of gadget and educational supplies to the city’s School Division Office (SDO) on Monday to be distributed to public school students and teachers in the city.

Mayor Carmelita Abalos and Department of Education (DepEd) Usec. Tonisito Umali led the ceremonial turnover of the learning devices, educational modules, and complete school uniforms to education officials in the city, just in time for this year’s school opening.

Despite the continuing threat of the pandemic, the DepEd formally opened on Monday the school year 2020-2021 under distance learning modality.

Abalos said the local government has allocated P557 million for the purchase of 41,000 tablets for students from Grades 4 to 12 and 2,300 laptops for all public school teachers in the city.

Laptops will be also distributed to school principals, supervisors, and other SDO personnel.

“Because education is so important, we poured all of the necessary funds into education,” she said.

The local government said the tablets for students are quad core with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and 2G, 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Meanwhile, the laptops for teachers have 14-inch Full HD display, Intel Core i5 Processor, 8GB of RAM, 2TB storage, with built-in Wi-Fi, microphone, and web camera.

The local government has also turned over 60,000 self-learning modules and provided 60,000 school uniforms, shoes, and socks to students from Kinder to Grade 12.

Abalos had earlier said that Mandaluyong is 100 percent ready for the implementation of the new mode in learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“With the help of our Schools Division Office, Tiger City is 100 percent ready to implement modern methods in response to the new normal,” she said.
